Doctors Venkman (Murray), Stantz (Akroyd) and Spengler (Ramis) work in the Parapsychology department of a university, until their funding is cut and they are put out on the street without prior notice. However, they have just seen a real ghost and collected information which will allow Spengler to build a device which can capture and hold ghosts. They borrow the money needed and start their own business as investigators and exterminators of paranormal pests. Shortly after they start their new business New York City seems to be overrun by ghosts and the team can't keep up with the demand for their services. Except for being overworked everything is going great for the team until a man from the EPA comes in with the police and shuts down the containment field holding the ghosts, and has the team arrested for the resulting explosion of supernatural forces. And this is done just as an ancient evil force of great magnitude is about to come into our dimension and destroy everything (in other words, bring about the end of the world).
 This is a great supernatural comedy. I think they could have left out some of the profanity, but over all it was very enjoyable to watch. I now also have a page on Ghostbusters II.
